In the interest of reducing hospital visits and decreasing the prevalence of diet related disease, Montefiore’s community health department began to investigate ways to surround their hospitals with healthy eating options

Increasingly, hospitals are starting to imagine a far greater role for health creation in their communities, from treatment to actually creating health by bringing vegetable markets deeper into poorly served neighborhoods.

At Montefiore Health System, the university hospital for Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx neighborhoods in New York are finding a surprising source of sustainable nutrition. As the headline above shows, the physicians are are finding surprising results. The remote clinic will never be the same.
